Manage Integrated Change Control
Integrated change control process serves as an overseer to the Monitoring and Controlling processes. The integrated change control is where the project”s change control process is established. It is the project manager”s responsibility to manage the changes and ensure the policies of change are implemented. Integrated change control is concerned with:
- Influencing the factors that cause change and reaching agreement on their resulting change requests
- Determining that change is needed or has happened
- Managing approved changes
- Updating and maintaining the integrity of the requirements that impact scope, quality, schedule and budgets based on approved changes
- Documenting requested changes and their impacts
Configuration management is a subset of the project management information system. It tells how to submit a change request and includes processes for tracking the changes. It also has processes for defining the approval levels and authorizing the changes.
The change control system is a subset of the configuration management system. It describes how to submit changes requests and how to manage them. It describes how the management of the changes impacts the project performance. The change control system and configuration management system together identify, document and control the changes to the performance baseline.
All changes should be submitted in writing. This clarifies the change and makes sure there is not confusion about what is being requested. The time it will take to implement the change can be accurately estimated.
The configuration control board reviews all change requests and either approves or denies the request.
